Laura Ibañez is a doctoral student working on understanding the microstructural evolution of nuclear reactor components, specifically Zr alloys, during rapid thermal excursions. Her work aims to contribute to the development of safer and more efficient nuclear energy systems. Laura will use techniques including FIB, TEM, and STEM. She holds a four-year BSc and one-year integrated Master of Chemistry degree from the University of Aberdeen, where she graduated with the William Rudolph Medal in Chemistry, awarded to the most distinguished graduate in Chemistry. For her master's thesis, she worked at the National Spanish Research Council (CSIC) and the Centro Nacional de Microscopía Avanzada in Madrid.
